About Us
WE LOVE IT HERE, YOU WILL TOO!
Welcome to Glendalough Glamping.
OUR STORY
Glendalough is a family run enterprise. The family have lived in the Wicklow mountains for several generations. The glamping site is part of a 21 acre farm on which a herd of rare breed Shropshire sheep are kept by the family. Wild deer are regularly seen grazing in the open glades in the morning and evening time.
OUR ECO CREDENTIALS
At Glendalough Glamping, we take our role as custodians of our beautiful hillside seriously. We continuously explore ways to enhance the natural beauty and diversity of the site, and to lighten our own footsteps on the land. We believe people benefit immeasurably from re-connecting with nature and having a peaceful and beautiful place to take it all in. Our slice of heaven is quiet, scenic, and tranquil. We are constantly asking ourselves how we can do things better with everything we build, every product we use, and everything we do. Here are just a few of the things that make us the perfect destination for the eco-conscious traveller.
Energy Saving
- Motion sensor lights in all our service buildings automatically switch on and off as needed.
- Bathrooms have water saving taps, showers, and toilets.
- Our solar hot water system supplies 60% of our hot water needs.
- Solar lights line our pathways.
- Bedding is line dried.
Waste Management
- Grey water is processed on site and piped to our fields.
- Sewage is processed in an eco-friendly on-site system.
- We separate all waste for recycling.
- Food waste is composted on-site.
Wildlife (Flora and Fauna)
- Tree planting on site is an ongoing activity, with more trees added every year.
- Native heather in our gardens encourages bees.
- We have nesting boxes on site for owls, kestrels, a variety of smaller birds and bats.
- A cascade of ponds at the top of the property provides an annual home to native duck species and aquatic fauna.
- We allow deer to roam our fields freely.
- Our natural, fertiliser-free hillsides are grazed by a traditional breed of sheep, and support a wide variety of native meadow flora and insects.
Eco Friendly
- A heavy reliance on natural materials in all our buildings reduces our carbon footprint.
- Having no concrete under our pods decreases their carbon footprint and reduces the damage done to the landscape.
- We use eco-friendly cleaners throughout the property.
On-site Facilities
- Drinking water is provided by an on-site well.
- Linen is laundered on-site, allowing us to save on transport, power, and reduce chemical use.
